Hexaviz, 2025

A multi-screen data visualisation capturing the real‑time imprint of visitor movement inside CODE’s hexagonal motion space.

HEXAVIZ is a data-driven, multi‑screen installation that visualises the imprint of visitors moving inside CODE’s hexagonal motion space, where theme‑based immersive projects are presented.

Using the motion‑capture system installed in the Hexagon, the movement data is displayed in a separate exhibition area. The central screen—embedded in a custom-built wall segment—shows a generative geometric visualisation of real‑time presence and motion occurring above in the hexagonal space. The visual language draws inspiration from the basalt‑organ lava formations characteristic of the Balaton Uplands.

Four additional rectangular screens offer complementary viewpoints based on statistical summaries:

Screen 1: the usage of the hexagonal space visualised as motion trails — a sped‑up animation generated from previous days’ movement data.

Screen 2: the last 25 days’ unique visual characteristics displayed in a 5×5 grid animation, revealing how audiences used the space over time.

Screen 3: frequency and popularity of the last 25 days shown in a 5×5 grid; the clock‑like visuals map relationships between visitor numbers and active hours (9:00–18:00 each day).

Screen 4: each day’s space usage depicted as a kaleidoscope‑like visual, generating unique patterns by transforming recorded visitor positions.

This dual setup — the interactive motion environment and its interpretive visual counterpart — creates a dialogue between bodily experience and its abstracted representation. Visitors engage with the space physically while simultaneously observing the evolving dynamics of collective presence. The installation also provides an abstract overview of visitor numbers and the popularity of different programs at HEXA.
